set an intention
If youâve taken yoga classes or meditated before, this process might be familiar to you. Setting an intention is a great way to direct your thoughts where youâd like them to go and manifest what you want. Try setting an intention when you want to get back to sleep. Hereâs how:
1. Start by sitting upright with your hands on your knees. You can leave your eyes open with a soft focus or let them close.
2. Ask yourself what you want to do. Of course, the answer is probably âI want to fall back to sleep.â But what needs to happen for you to fall asleep? Two things: (1) Your body needs to relax, with your muscles at ease. (2) Your mind needs to power down.
3. Now that you know what needs to happen, set an intention that will bring about these two preconditions for sleep. It might be something like âCreate a sense of peaceâ or âSet aside the worries and anxieties currently on my mind.â Or, it might be just one word, like âserenity.â
4. With your intention in mind, close your eyes and focus on your breath. Will your intention into being with your breath, and return to it whenever you get distracted.
5. Continue for 10 breaths or until you feel ready for sleep.
